Bunker Hill was originally built in 1940 as federal public housing Many of its buildings have fallen into disrepair in the intervening decades due to a lack of federal funding The existing 42 buildings will be replaced with 15 new residential buildings retail and community space as well as green spaces and connections to the surrounding In total the Bunker Hill Housing Redevelopment project encompasses 26 acres The redevelopment master site plan includes the demolition of 42 buildings consisting presently of 1 100 BHA units and the construction of 2 699 new residential units in 15 buildings ranging from 4 10 stories high All units will be built to the same quality standards
